The leading actors of Gautam Ghosh’s ambitious project, ‘Yatra-the journey’ - Rekha and Nana Patekar - are apparently refusing to attend the premiere of the film, which might lead to the cancellation of the event in Mumbai. The film might have been selected for the Montreal film festival, but back home, it’s been riddled with problems. Stories about the alleged differences between the director and Rekha have been floating around for some time.
Apparently the producers of the film didn’t take too kindly to Rekha’s ‘constant interference’ and this led to some ego battles on the sets of the film. However, the stand-off seems to have reached its climax with the lead pair reportedly refusing to attend the premiere which is scheduled for later this month.
Surprisingly, Ghosh didn’t even know about the development. “I was in the US and have just returned to Kolkata. I was told there would be a premiere in Mumbai and I was really hoping there would be one. I’ll call the producers and find out what’s happening,” he said.
However, Agnidev Chatterjee, the executive producer of the film, is quite aware of the problem. “Yes, as of now, we are not sure if there will be a premiere in Mumbai. We are still trying to persuade the actors to attend it. Only by tomorrow morning we will know for sure if we can manage one.”
When asked if Rekha has in fact refused to attend the premiere, he just said, “I will not be able to tell you because we are still trying to get her.”
