The ‘Water’ actor will be attending the Academy Awards in a traditional sari
Seema Biswas has a reason to smile. And why not, considering her film ‘Water’ has won itself an Academy Award nomination. “It’s a great feeling to know that one’s hard work is being acknowledged and appreciated; the credit undoubtedly, goes to Deepa (Mehta),” says an excited Seema.
So did she expect ‘Water’ to receive such rave reviews? “It’s definitely a well-made film. But frankly speaking, the nomination was a bit of surprise. I was overwhelmed when I first heard about it,” Seema observes.
Since then, congratulatory wishes have been in order. “Of course, Deepa and I had a long chat. And yes, I’m heading for the awards ceremony,” she gushes, even before we ask her about it. Needless to say, Seema will opt for a traditional sari. “I’d obviously be more comfortable wearing it,” she smiles.
But if you think ‘Water’ is her only Canadian connection, think again. For her next film ‘Amal’ , an English and Hindi film, is also a Canadian production. “It revolves around the life of a rickshawallah; I play a lawyer in the film,” she explains.
Apart from this, there’s a Manoj Gaekwad film titled ‘Kaaran’ which will see her play a brothel madam. “It’s a very strong role,” she notes. To add to this, she’s also doing N Chandra’s ‘Breaking News’. From a bandit queen to a madam, Seema sure loves playing ‘power packed’ roles!
