'Chacha Chaudhary' wasn't the first character created by Pran kumar Sharma, in fact, the artist has been endearing Indians with many other relatable characters including Shrimatiji, Billoo, Channi Chachi, Pinki and Raka.
By creating such characters, Pran made sure that the storyline and characters keep the Indian middle-class vibe intact. The familiar household names like—Billo, Rani, Pinki... drew children as well as adults to pick his comics. For the USP of representing a section of society, Pran published over 400 comic books; over 30 newspapers and periodicals still carry his comic strips; And, he is considered the father of Indian comics.
Revisiting the old days, dna takes you on a trip down the memory lane when you could find yourself in the episodes created by the legend.
Shrimatiji
The oldest character created by Pran Kumar Sharma in 1968, Shrimatiji is a middle class woman in thirties, who has a husband and two children. Like his other comic characters, this one targets the Indian women, who want to attend Kitty parties and beauty parlours. Shrimatiji alias Sheila is always taking a jibe at her husband, Kishore and believes in enjoying life as it comes her way.
Billoo
Billo is sketched a lanky lad, whose face is always covered by fringes falling over his forehead, always covering his eyes. In no episode, has anyone seen his eyes. Billo is a school-going teenager who has a gang, which is always in search of some excuse to showdown Bajrangi, the wrestler and his aide, Dhakkan.
Pinki
This five-year-old troublesome lass is often seen creating a round-up of menace around her neighbourhood. She is always with Kut-Kut—her pet squirrel. The whole neighbourhood is scared of her.
Pinki's popularity also led to shoot the sales of children goods, which imprinted her picture on them.
Raman
Popularising comic-culture in India, Pran sketched another character Raman – A middle class man, who has sky-rocketing aspirations. Alike middle class people, he is also helpless about situations and stays jovial around wife.
