Sridevi and sister Srilatha make up after years
The property dispute between Sridevi and her sister Srilatha is a thing of the past. Almost two decades ago, Sridevi was involved in a legal battle with sister Srilatha. Again, it seems Srilatha, at the instance of her husband, sued Sridevi because of which the actress had to shell out a lump sum, and the siblings stopped talking to each other. But now the estranged sisters have patched up and established a comfort, thanks to Boney Kapoor’s mediation.
Pages from the past
The death of her mom had left Sri shattered. Her sister’s marriage at that time made her sense of isolation more excruciating. Her sister was her constant companion, friend and confidante. Srilatha had played a crucial role in her professional rise too. There was a time when she shadowed Sri with a video camera in hand shooting her dances, her expressions, in fact her every move.
At night they watched the results, worked on a better image, and unobtrusively, Sri transformed herself. That’s why, after Srilatha’s marriage, Sridevi seemed withdrawn and unsure. “Without my sister, I feel so incomplete,” she confided to a friend.
Party time
Sri and hubby Boney have been partying non-stop for the entire week ever since she received the Padma Shri award last week. On Monday evening in Chennai, Sridevi’s sister Srilatha threw a party. The night before that, the duo was in Hyderabad to attend a party in Sridevi’s honour hosted by her cousin Maheshwari. Says Sridevi, “I see my husband glowing with pride at the things that have happened recently (her comeback in English Vinglish and Padma Shri). More than myself I feel happy to see him happy.”
Biwi ho toh aisi
Adds Boney, “Why shouldn’t I be proud? You name one other actress who has had a 40-year innings and made a comeback like hers. Sri is the only actress to have played the lead with two generation of actors in the South and North. In Telugu cinema, she has starred opposite both NT Rama Rao and his son. In Bollywood, she has worked opposite both Dharmendra and Sunny Deol. She should have got the Padma Shri long back. But never mind. We’re celebrating her success belatedly.”
