After wowing fashionistas across the globe and making their presence felt at the prestigious Oscars, Indian designers now seem to be setting their sights on Hollywood in a big way. Leading from the front is Delhi-based designer Suneet Varma, who has been specially invited to the week-long India Splendour Festival in LA.
The fashion show, which will be held at the luxurious Hammer Museum, Beverly Hills, is expecting a heady mix of Hollywood honchos, from film producers, directors and actors. The invitee list also includes Victoria Beckham, Goldie Hawn, Sharon Stone, Elizabeth Hurley and the like.
Says Suneet, “Indian fashion is very firmly on the global map today. It is just a matter of time before Hollywood acknowledges the Indian fashion industry, as we have such a wealth of talent, especially in the couture segment. I am pleased to get this opportunity to showcase a slice of Indian couture fashion to the Hollywood community. It is indeed of great interest as I will be the first Indian designer to do so.”
The designer will showcase an haute couture collection of embroidered tunics, dresses and gowns. Indian textiles will make its presence felt with woven golds and beiges; lace, ribbon and beadwork on sheer diaphanous fabrics in delicate ivories with corsage blouses and pearl strings used on asymmetrical tunics, and evening dresses in jewel tones marked with classic lines.
The designer will also make a presentation for an Indo-American Hollywood venture as part of his trip.
