Sources say director K Nanjunda is considering casting the actor in Bangalore Calling, a film that he is currently scripting. The story revolves around the lure of the entertainment and media industries.

So have we heard right about Sunil’s involvement in the film? “I guess people are jumping the gun in this matter. I don’t deny the fact that I know about the project. But that’s only because Nanjunda and I go back a long way. The script work is currently on and I was asked to give my suggestions. The film revolves around three boys who come from a village to Bangalore to participate in an entertainment show. It is all about the good, bad and ugly of Bangalore. I won’t be surprised if the film kicks up a controversy even. Anyway, I found the concept interesting and have even been told that I am being seriously considered to play one of the major roles,” he says.

Are there any other projects that he has been approached for? “I have taken a conscious decision to stay away from mediocre scripts. While I do understand that I will be left with no choice but to do just one film in five years if I sit waiting for a meaningful script to come by, I am also not someone who will take up everything that comes my way for the heck of it.”

This is when we wonder, what then could have gone wrong with his previous, “well thought out” project, Minugu? “I still maintain that the film came with a very interesting story line. May be it wasn’t well executed. While some felt that the tempo was slow, others felt it lacked in production value. As an actor I believe in doing just my job. I also tend to trust the director and producer when they say they’ll do their tasks well. When this doesn’t happen, a film fails,” explains Sunil. The actor further adds that Premism, in which he made a special appearance, also let him down for similar reasons.

“I do agree I was the surprise element and that’s why I was kept out of the promotional activities. But even after the film released, I was not spoken about by the team. In fact many did not even know about my presence until the film was screened on TV! I feel that so far I have trusted the wrong people and having realised the damage it has done to my career, decided to take it slow and develop clarity about situations, people and scripts. I have decided to remain choosy (a bit of a cliche, isn’t it?). Till then, I will keep myself busy by practising music and learning all about filmmaking,” ends Sunil.
