Popular Gujarati columnist, humorist and playwright Taarak Mehta passed away on Wednesday morning at the age of 87, after prolonged illness. The writer's column Duniya Ne Undha Chashma in Gujarati language was the inspiration behind the popular sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah on the channel Sab TV.
The news of his death came as a shock to the entire crew of the show. We spoke to Dilip Joshi who essays the character of Jethalal on the show, who informed us that they were busy finishing their episodes when they first heard the sad news of his demise.
We quizzed Joshi if the makers plan to pay tribute to the playwright and here's what he said, "Of course we will do a special episode in memory of him. That is what we all are planning. The entire team and producers are now discussing how we can do it. It is extremely sad that he passed away."
Taarak Mehta was also awarded with the Padma Shree award in 2015.
