Terror Tales of Bollywood

It has been a decade since the attacks on the WTC Twin Towers in downtown Manhattan sent shock waves across the world. The world as we knew it changed not only for those who lost friends, relatives or acquaintances in the attacks but it changed for each one of us. The 9/11 attacks and its aftermath have been the subject of quite a few novels, documentaries, docudramas and Hollywood films. Back in India, where for the larger part of the last century many chased the “American Dream”, it was only natural for filmmakers to use the tragic event to tell different stories of bereavement, racial profiling, and stories of anger as some people’s dream got farther away or those of anti-America feelings. DNA takes a look at some Hindi films that are set against the backdrop of these attacks. We have included one Pakistani film, to know why, you’ll have to read on...
The film has nothing to do with the actual attacks and is a psycho-thriller-love-story. The protagonist Anupama, is speaking to her sister in NYC when the attacks take place and she loses her sister. Engaged to a family friend, Anupama finds herself drawn to a stranger Aman. As she starts to get involved with him, all that Anupama knows is that he works for an anti-terrorism organisation. The closer she gets to Aman, the farther she goes from her family. But nobody but Anupama has ever seen this man.

A decade after the 9/11 terror attacks, we look at Hindi films that told stories with the tragic event as a backdrop.
