Get ready for a treat this Pongal, since Rajinikanth and Ajith Kumar are all set to entertain you over the weekend! Rajini will be part of Karthik Subbaraj’s directorial Petta while Ajith is all set to star in Viswasam, directed by Sivakumar Jayakumar.
Both the movies are of different genres. While Petta is a fun throwback to the kind of movies which Rajinikanth acted in back in the 90s (he plays a gangster named Kaali from Madhurai who transforms himself), Viswasam is the story of a village chief (of Thooku Durai) who is loved by his people. Ajith will also play a young version and a middle-aged Thookudurai.
The movies have been received well and are expected to create a blast in Tamil Nadu. It is known that Rajini is a global star but Ajith is also not behind as he’s known as the ‘King of openings’. Petta is expected to be released over 3000 screens whereas Viswasam will be screened over 2000 screens.
Bollywood trade analyst Akshaye Rathi told Zee Business, "Both the films are highly anticipated and have been released at the time of Pongal. It's just like an Aamir Khan movie on Diwali or Christmas and Salman Khan movie on Eid coming together on the same day. Any guess in terms of numbers will be premature now."
Produced by Sun Pictures, Petta has an ensemble cast of superstar Rajinikanth, Vijay Sethupathi, Trisha, Simran, Bobby Simha, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Mega Akash and others. On the other hand, Viswasam features Nayanthara, Jagapathy Babu, Yogi Babu, Vivekh and Kovai Sarala and others in the supporting cast.
