Headlined by Prithviraj Sukumaran and helmed by Blessy, The Goat Life or Aadujeevitham was released in the theatres on March 28 this year. The survival drama is based on the 2008 best-selling Malayalam novel Aadujeevitham, which Blessy had decided to adapt after reading it and had also cast Prithviraj as the lead 16 years ago. However, the film went into development hell due to budget constraints and was finally released earlier this year after more than a decade and a half.
The Goat Life became a blockbuster upon its release and earned Rs 85 crore net in India and grossed Rs 157.35 crore worldwide, as per the entertainment tracking portal Sacnilk. It became the third highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time behind the 2024 release Manjummel Boys (Rs 242 crore) and the 2023 release 2018 (Rs 176 crore).
After more than three months of its release, the film will start streaming on Netflix on July 19. The OTT giant shared the announcement poster on its social media platforms on Sunday, July 14, and wrote, "A story of courage, hope, and survival. Aadujeevitham is coming to Netflix on 19 July in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi."
The Blessy directorial is inspired by the real-life incident of an Indian migrant labourer Najeeb Muhammadm, essayed by Prithviraj, who goes to the Middle East to earn money. However, in a twist of fate, he finds himself living a slave-like existence, herding goats in the middle of the desert in Saudi Arabia.
