Young Kruti Majmudar is a busy girl. While pursuing her architecture career in the US and designing theatres and multiplexes, she has also ventured into film-making. Her debut film, ‘The Memsahib’ has been showcased at IFFI in Goa, after having won awards in film festivals abroad. Kruti, who’s born in India and raised in the US says “I have always been in touch with India. After having made short films abroad, I thought why not make a movie that is based in India and is totally Indian. My movie is not a typical NRI’s- journey-to-India kind of a film.” Kruti who has written the script of the film herself roped in Parveen Dabas, Emily Hamilton and television actor, Svetta Keshwani to play the lead roles.

Shot in a truly international style, Kruti aspires to woo the metro audiences. Apart from distributors in India, Kruti is also looking for distributors abroad so that she has simultaneous releases in as many countries as possible. “There were so many film lovers who wanted to catch the film in Goa,” smiles Kruti. The film has brought in praises for Kruti from filmmakers like Ketan Mehta who absolutely loved it.

‘The Memsahib’ is a period film, set in the 1850s. The film  has noted musician Uday Mazumdar composing the score while Nitin Desai has done the art direction of the film.
