Actress Jacqueline Fernandez has given herself the perfect Christmas gift — she has taken the responsibility of a group of destitute girls in her homeland.

Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline Fernandez has revealed that she has made a Christmas gift to herself — she has financially adopted a few girls who were affected by the Tsunami a few years back.

Jacky (as she is fondly referred to) has adopted the girls in Sri Lanka through a Church programme that needed funding for Tsunami affected orphans who required schooling and basic living necessities. The actress, say sources, has decided to bear the living costs of these girls — that includes funding their basic necessities like food, shelter and clothes till they become mature adults.

The actress is now representing an international NGO in Sri Lanka and goes there from time to time. The actor will be a volunteer in Sri Lanka where she will literally work with a group to build homes for the homeless who have been affected by natural calamities in her own
country.

“I have been with Habitat for Humanity (HFH), an international NGO, for over a year now and represent this organisation for Sri Lanka. We work with the homeless who are given a chance to build their home from scratch and we help as volunteers. It’s such a beautiful experience! Also, I am proud to be associated with an NGO which supports the idea of girl child education,” she says.

Tell Jacky that she seems to have vanished from Mumbai and she says that she was in Sri Lanka and is still waiting for the  right Bollywood script to come her way. “Zoning in on the right script and role is critical to me which is why I haven’t signed anything in so long. However, 2011 is going to be an important year for my film career so I’m really looking forward to it,” she says on a positive note.
