This January is probably going to be the hottest month of the year. Not literally, silly. In Bollywood. Why? Two adult movies are releasing back to back. Both starring Tusshar Kapoor. While Kya Kool Hai Hum 3 releases on January 22, Mastizaade hits theatres on January 29.
Director Milap Zaveri spoke to us as he made some interesting revelations. Talking about the paradigm shift in today's cinema, Milap said, "Today, there's a certain audience for these films and it is proved from the fact that films like Grand Masti, Kya Kool Hai Hum have worked so well at the box office. There's a huge section of the crowd which wait for these films to come. Like the first teaser of Mastizaade released almost one and half years back. Our film kept getting pushed but the anticipation has only doubled."
Does he fear being trashed by critics? "It doesn't matter. As long as you come to the theatre and watch it, I don't care if they say distasteful stuff about my film. I am not making the film for great ratings. I am making a commercial adult comedy and there will be many reviews which will criticise us and I am aware of it. But there will also be people who will watch it first day first show, like it and will watch it second time chupke chupke. It's a taboo still in India to talk about sex openly. So that will happen but even if you come chupke chupke, watch it and say bad about the film, I am happy."
Also, talking about everything, Milap discussed the idea of turning this into a franchise. "I have written Kya Kool and Masti and they are two of the biggest franchises today. With Mastizaade, we have to first gauge the response at the box office. If it's positive, then we might go ahead with a sequel. Plans are to make this into a franchise. But as of now, there are no concrete ideas or scripts yet."
