Vijay Deverakonda's still from Kushi trailer

Vijay Deverakonda responds to the viral 'feminist' line from the trailer of Kushi.

The trailer of Kushi, the new romantic drama starring Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, was released on Wednesday evening. The film, which is releasing in five languages, is hitting the theatres early next month and the trailer has generated quite a good buzz. While fans praised the plot and the chemistry of the leads, one line in the trailer caught the attention of most fans, who felt it was more Vijay Deverakonda's message to naysayers than the character saying it.

In the trailer, Vijay's character is seen telling a woman, "Meri market me reputation kharab hai varna main feminist hoon (My reputation is bad in the market but I am a feminist)." The line is meant to show that the protagonist Vikram is perceived as someone who does not respect women but he is asserting that isn't the case. Fans noted that the same can be said for Vijay himself, who was labeled misogynist after his hit Arjun Reddy and a few statements in the last few years. At the grand trailer launch of Kushi in Hyderabad, we asked Vijay if the line was from his character or a message from him to naysayers. A flustered Vijay Deverakonda responded, "Now what to do, they had called me a misogynist so many times. Everybody had called me this so many times. But those who know me know who I am. So I don't need to say anything beyond that."

Helmed by Shiva Nirvana, Kushi stars Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Vijay Deverakonda. According to the trailer, the movie revolves around the love story of Aradhaya and Vikram who go against the wish of their families and marry each other to prove to their parents that 'love is enough for marriage' and becomes prey to marital problems. Produced by Mythri Movie Makers, the romantic drama is scheduled to release worldwide on September 1.
