With the Puli team under the IT scanner and raids going on till late Wednesday night, the release of the film has taken a hit.
Industry sources say that the money that needed to be paid to Qube for releasing the KDM key to theatres was pending till late last night. Early morning shows (4.30 am) in Tamil Nadu have been cancelled as a result.
The premieres of the film outside India have just begun. The shows in Chennai are said to begin at 11 30 am now.
Income tax raids were conducted in several places in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday including at the homes of actors Vijay, Samanatha and Nayanthara and the producers of the film 'Puli', PT Selvakumar and Shibu Thameens. Eminent financiers for the film industry also came under the IT net.
According to income tax sources, there was money used in the production of Vijay’s Puli which was unaccounted for.
Late Wednesday evening, it was reported that actor-producer T Rajender and actor Vishal, who is contesting the Nadigar Sangam elections, were trying to help sort out this issue. Sources added that the movie is likely to release post noon.
This is not the first time that a Vijay film has been in trouble at the time of its release. Kaththi and Thalaivaa also faced a lot of issues before release.
