If there is one thing that Game of Thrones knows how to do well, it's up themselves with every season. The latest proof is in its first teaser for season 7, released by HBO on Thursday.
The teaser, titled 'Long Walk', sees Cersei Lannister (Lena Heady), Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and Jon Snow (Kit Harington) walk down corridors to their seat of power.
Clocking in just over a minute and a half, the simple walk sets the scene for the new season where the families will battle each for power, and prepare for the war with the White Walkers for sheer survival.
Set to Sit Down by James from the album Gold Mother, the teaser sees Cersei walk up to the Iron Throne and take her seat. Following the king, her son's death, Cersei is Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. Meanwhile, Daenerys seems to have crossed the sea and reached her birthplace, Dragonstone, the traditional seat of the Targaryens. At Winterfell, after being declared 'King of the North', Jon Snow takes his seat at the head of the table in the great hall.
Three separate claims to power, three different motives, a united stare that means business.
The teaser ends with Cersei's frosty exhale, a sign of winter's approach and, perhaps, also a sign of an alliance with the wights? We'll have to wait and see.
Winter will be here on July 16.
