A still from the movie

The film is being dubbed as India's first female buddy movie

If you think of buddy movies in Bollywood, chances are that only bromance movies will come to mind - Dil Chahta Hai, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, even Sholay. Now, JungleBook Entertainment and Protein Entertainment attempts to break the stereotype in Angry Indian Goddesses, with a bunch of girlfriends as the main protagonists.

Directed by Pan Nalin, Angry Indian Goddesses is being dubbed as India's first female buddy movie and stars Sarah Jane Dias, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Amrit Maghera, Anushka Manchanda, Sandhya Mridul, Pavleen Gujral and Rajshri Deshpande.

The story follows seven women who come together to celebrate the announcement of a friend's wedding and what happens next. There is love, friendship, betrayal, revenge and a lot of anger. Possibly, even a conspiracy brewing, by the looks of the shots of a knife on the road and a pistol wrapped in paper? Set to the extremely catchy 'Kattey' sung by Bhanvari Devi and Hard Kaur and produced by Ram Sampath for Season 3 of MTV Coke Studio, the first look trailer packs quite a punch.

Angry Indian Goddesses will premier at the 40th Toronto International Film Festival starting September 10.
