Tanmay Bhat and Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin vs Lata Civil War seems to have rubbed some people the wrong way, but then what doesn't?

We Indians seem to really lack a sense of humour and are willing to take offence about anything. The latest incident to ruffle a few feathers seems to be comedian Tanmay Bhat whose jokes about Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar seems to have rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. While people literally fell over themselves to pan AIB after their roast, following which to be fair, they really haven't been themselves anymore (which might be because they've gone mainstream).

In the video Tanmay face-swaps Sachin and Lata, and makes fun of their batting and the singer’s looks and even gets involved in a verbal argument in the video. In the video Tanmay’s Lata claims that Virat was the better batsman while Tanmay’s Sachin makes fun of Lata’s Mangeshkar’s age. Tanmay had posted the video with the caption: "Sachin vs Lata Civil War (I make such nonsense on my snapchat – follow me there – ID: Thetanmay) (Also I obviously love Lata and Sachin, just having some fun). [sic]"

And he added for good measure: "Yes, don't trust people who get super mad super easily."  While last time around AIB faced a barrage of criminal cases than your average, common or garden criminal, we will have to wait and see if the cops come calling again.

Needless to say several Bollywood personalities were hurt by Tanmay Bhat’s jokes who deemed it ‘insulting’, which is quite hard to accept considering the misogynist and outrageous stereotypes Bollywood has peddled over the years.

Here’s what some of them tweeted:

And some would call his resolute defence of PM Modi better than those 9 awards.

No it's not and Humshakals, Housefull, Heyy Babyy and Grand Masti were all very respectful to society, women, children and pets.

Again, humour is subjective. Meanwhile, let's remember 'sticks and stones can break your bones, but words can never hurt you'.

A few voices of support:

Check out Tanmay Bhat's epic response though

By the way, while it's perfectly fine for people to take 'offence' to jokes about their 'icons', the real problem will start if someone demands a ban.
