Who is the most photogenic actor?

In a recent report, Man of Steel actor Henry Cavill was said to be the most photogenic celebrity in Hollywood. Aakanksha Naval-Shetye asked some of our best-known photographers about who will be the most photogenic actor and actress in Bollywood. While Sonam Kapoor emerged on top among the ladies, the choice remained divided among the men as the names ranged from legendary Dilip Kumar to marquee ruler Akshay Kumar to the current heartthrob Ranveer Singh. Here’s who chose whom...

Sonam is incredibly gorgeous and has an ethereal, almost old world charm to her face. But equally photogenic are Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone. Arjun was and is one of the most photogenic faces in the industry. He is still the same; the way he was years ago as a model, incredibly photogenic! Farhan Akhtar too has an interesting face. Ranbir Kapoor’s presence is overpowering in front of the camera. He has got a very strong presence, simply impossible to ignore.

Aishwarya is easily one of the most photogenic actresses. You can click her at any hour and you know that you will get that perfect shot. Her eyes speak volumes and she is truly beautiful. But what really makes her special is the person she is. Besides being extremely professional, she is also very down-to-earth. Shooting her means that you have arrived as a photographer. I have known Hrithik even before his debut was planned. Back then I had shot his portfolio not knowing who he really was and even back then I just knew that there was something about him that set him apart from the rest of the newcomers. He had that drive, that potential and he didn’t prove me wrong. Even today, he wants to outdo our previous work each time. He never takes his body or looks for granted.

You just can’t go wrong with Sonam. Her sensibility, her upbringing, her tastes… all spell classy. She is superbly gorgeous and that has little to do with her fashion or styles, and more to do with the ease with which she can carry off any look. She has one of the most beautiful faces, it’s impossible to not get it right with her. I always believe that a picture just doesn’t capture faces, it captures souls and John is blessed with the best of both. He is amazing to look at, but he’s also one of the best guys around. Simple and honest. He’s really hard working and as a model completely surrenders to the camera. I love clicking him as his goodness just shines through no matter what way he is captured. Also he understands camera angle and works beautifully, always delivering what the lens wants him to.

It’s got to be a tie between Sonam and Priyanka Chopra. Sonam is very gorgeous in her own way. And among the men, undoubtedly it will be Akshay Kumar. He can make any picture look good. Perfect features. And always ready to try something new in front of the camera. A dream combo for any photographer.

Deepika is a classic Indian beauty and yet can carry off a western look with equal ease. She is very camera-intelligent, understands the nuances of how the camera works, and gives it her best.

Salman is simply a drop-dead gorgeous hunk, who is extremely casual in front of the camera. There are just no efforts and his casual attitude bordering on indifference towards the camera makes him look effortlessly appealing.

Esha is someone I shot recently with and I was amazed with the way she totally gave herself to the camera. She was ready to experiment but more than that every angle that she was shot from, she looked amazing. So I think she is naturally very photogenic. And I am yet to find the charm of Dilip saab in anyone else. At 90 he makes for the best portrait pictures. He exudes grace, confidence and charm.

I have done over 20 shoots with Sonakshi and still there’s always something new to do with her. She just keeps getting better and better with each shoot. Her smile can light up any place and is one of the most genuine ones in Bollywood. She is a photographer’s delight and makes for some amazing shots. She is definitely one of the most photogenic faces in the industry. Ranveer and I have known each other for over 23 years now. And ever since I started shooting him, I think my camera has fallen in love with him (laughs).

He is always sporting enough to try out new stuff and keeps you on toes. So together there is always something different that we can try. He brings out the best in a photographer. Also he is in perfect sync with my camera and always gives what it wants.
