“Who says I am humble? I am not. I am a realist and have no hesitation in accepting what I am capable of. My attitude has more to do with the worth of an individual,” says veteran Naseeruddin Shah when you compliment him for being down to earth. Presently, in London shooting for Jagmohan Mundra’s ‘Shoot at Sight’, the actor sounds enthusiastic when you ask him about his forthcoming film Wednesday’.
‘Wednesday’ calling Elaborating on Neeraj Pandey’s directorial debut, Naseer reveals. “The movie revolves around a common man, who is inherently peace loving but is driven to desperation by the complete apathy of the judiciary.” He adds, “The one most affected is the common man—the one in the million of faces coming out of Churchgate station.”
Instinctive pick So had he seen the director’s earlier works (on TV) before accepting the film? “I haven’t seen Neeraj’s previous work nor did I know him before. I just read the script and I knew I had to do the movie. I was impressed. Like always, I trusted my instinct. Sometimes it has worked, sometimes not. But there are no regrets,” Naseer explains.
Director’s cut The actor, who made his directorial debut with ‘Yun Hota to Kya Hota’, is doubtful about stepping into the director’s shoes again. “I wouldn’t want to get into direction again. I had a very bad experience with my debut. My producer was a moron (Shabbir Boxwala) that created a lot of difficulties. My wounds haven’t healed yet,” confesses Naseer. Father figure Speaking about his son Imaad, who is set to make his debut with a protagonist’s role in the upcoming ‘Dil Dosti Etc’, he says, “We share a lot of affection. Imaad wants to make a mark on his own. He is also interested in pursuing music. However, creating a niche in music is 10 million times more difficult than it’s in acting.”
