Why ‘Blue Film’ became ‘Kalyug’?

Mahesh Bhatt has retitled ‘Blue Film’ into ‘Kalyug’ in sync with Ashutosh Rana’s shudh Hindi touting persona

Mahesh Bhatt has an acclaimed sense of aesthetics. Equally famed, he is, for a shrewd mind.
Hence, when Ashutosh Rana insisted that the Mohit Suri-directed ‘Blue Film’ wasn’t gelling with his image and body of work, Bhatt got it immediately changed to ‘Kalyug’.

Business savvy Bhatt also felt that ‘Kalyug’ sounded more powerful and mass-driven. Some reports even said that the title was changed because of its provocative tone, but it wasn’t the case.

A source revealed, "Ashutosh had initial reservations about the title but then he was fine with it.  Bhatt then thought that it made more commercial sense to have ‘Kalyug’ instead."

Rana clarifies, "It wasn’t that I had problems with the title. It was his decision. I found both the titles nice. I am actually happy to be back in the Bhatt camp after three years (Gunaah)." Bhatt, meanwhile, couldn’t be reached.

‘Kalyug’ Kya Hai?

Kalyug deals with the sex scandal rackets and the MMS mafia. It exposes how couples are filmed secretly in hotels and how the prints are subsequently floated into the global internet market. Ashutosh Rana plays his most urbane character to date here.

"I play this sex racketeer, who has had 54 sexual relationships himself! He even has 54 tattoos on his arm to record his feats. It is a negative role, but interestingly-written," says Rana.
