Rating: ***

What’s it about:
The second part of the hugely entertainment Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs will remind you of the Man v/s Food show where a human takes upon the challenge of devouring large portions of sinful snacks. This time around the food items become giant monsters set to wreck havoc on Flint Lockwood’s (Bill Hader) island. The writers take creativity to new bounds creating ‘foodimals’ titled ‘tacodiles’ and ‘shrimpanzees’. Also making a supporting cast appearance are Flint’s dad dad (James Caan), and friends Sam (Anna Faris) and Earl (Terry Crews).

What’s hot:
Be prepared to be wowed by some amazing colors and landscapes. Visually the film is superior to its prequel in terms of animation as well as depth. Kids will be thrilled to see their favourite food dishes turned into animal shapes and forms. The dialogues and writing is also on a par with the images. With the talking voices of Neil Patrick Harris and Anna Faris, the characters become immensely likeable, even if they say some silly lines.

What’s not:
The film starts faltering in its second half, when the surprise element and novelty of these foodimals starts wearing off. There isn’t really a solid plot so most of the high points come and go sooner than expected. Also most of the material is written for the kids, adults will have to grin and bear the jokes. The Jurrasic Park metaphor used throughout the film works initially but soon dies its scripted death.

What to do:
Delicious in parts, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 is definitely worth a watch.
