Film: Charminar (Kannada)
Director: R Chandru
Cast: Prem, Meghana Gaonkar, Kumudha, Raji Talikote, Rangayana Raghu
Verdict: ***
With his latest flick, Charminar, R Chandru who made a successful debut with the romantic movie, Taaj Mahal a few years ago, once again proves his mettle in handling the megaphone ably. Charminar, in fact, focuses on the role of teachers in moulding students as better citizens, and the director deserves a pat on his back for conveying the message sensitively.
The story revolves around Mohan aka ABCD Mohan (Prem), a dull student who doesn’t know the difference between spelling Rama and Rum. Enter top-scoring student Radha (Meghana Gaonkar), who soon becomes every teacher’s pet in the school. Mohan soon starts idolising Radha and is inspired to turn a new leaf.
Also as expected, Mohan unwittingly falls in love with Radha. Like most unrequited love stories, circumstances play the villain here. So, you see Radha returning to her native place for unavoidable reasons. Will the two meet again and have their happily ever after? You’ll have to watch it to know the climax that’s been picturised excellently.
As far as performances go, Prem is at his best. His performance in the romantic and emotional sequences is a treat to watch. There are many scenes where the actor’s sincere performance might leave you teary- eyed. Meghana Gaonkar proves to be an equally credible performer. Rangayana Raghu delivers a good supporting act. Music director Hari has done a good job with his compositions, watch out particularly for Cindrella Cindrella. In short, Charminar is a film that both family audiences and the masses will enjoy.
