Film: Myna (Kannada)Director: NagshekharCast: Chetan, Nithya Menen, Sharat Kumar, Suman Ranganath, Suhashini, Tabala Nani, Ananth Nag, Arun Sagar, Sadhu Kokila MalavikaRating: ****It might come as a surprise, but Myna may very well be one of the best Kannada films released so far this year. The co-ordination between director Nagshekhar and cinematographer Satya Hegde deserves credit for making this film such a lovely one to watch. And set in the background of Doodh Sagar, Myna is a visual treat as well. Incidentally, it’s Nithya Menen, who walks away with all the honours for her performance. Not only does she look gorgeous (especially in a dream sequence), she moves the audience across the film with her acting skills. Chetan too has done a good job in the film and this could be one of his best so far (after Aa Dinagalu). It’s apparent that he’s followed the director’s instructions earnestly and has done complete justice to the role.Myna begins with a police commissioner directing police inspector Ashok Kumar (Sharat Kumar) and his team to nab Satya alias Satyamurthy (Chetan) who’s killed the home minister’s brother. Kumar and his team succeed in nabbing Satya with the help of Revathi (Malavika) in Chennai. During their journey back to Bangalore, Satya narrates his story to Kumar about what actually happened and that is where we are introduced to Nithya Menen. At this point, the director shifts the scene to Doodh Sagar to give us a background on the series of incidents that led to Satya’s arrest. Myna is a love story. But it isn’t a boy-meets-girl kind of tale. It has its bittersweet moments laced with enough action. An interesting story line, backed by decent screenplay, Myna is definitely a good watch.
