I recently read that potassium is among the most neglected nutrients in a natural diet. What foods are a good source of potassium ?
—Kishor Asher
Often neglected and much underestimated is our dear friend Potassium.
It’s an essential nutrient that helps your body counteract the effects of excess sodium.
A potassium-rich diet helps keep the heart, brain, kidney and muscle tissues in good condition.
There are plenty of foods that are a good source of potassium, and the best part is, it’s almost impossible to overdose on this vital nutrient when consumed from natural sources.
Good old bananas have a reputation for being the superhero in the potassium department.
A medium-sized banana can provide about 13 per cent of your daily potassium requirement.
Apart from that, dark leafy greens especially spinach, are a very good food source, too.
Sweet potatoes (even better with their skin), dried apricots, salmon, avocado, white mushrooms, beetroot, black beans, watermelon and edamame are all excellent choices to include in your daily diet to ensure your body gets the potassium it needs.
