After a spike in black fungus cases in several states across the country, states such as Rajasthan, Telangana, Gujarat, Haryana, and Assam have declared it as an epidemic. As the black fungus or mucormycosis is being declared as an epidemic in several states, a new fungus has emerged - white fungus. The new cases of white fungus have been found in Patna, Bihar. It is believed to be more fatal than black fungus.
Symptoms of White Fungus:
Similar to that of coronavirus.
Attacks the lungs, thus can be detected by high-resolution CT-scan
Spreads to lungs, kidneys, intestines, private parts, and nails
Detection:
Most likely to test negative even with all the symptoms of Covid-19, as told by Dr SN Singh, head of the Microbiology Department of PMCH, reported Zee News.
Is it dangerous?
Yes, more than black fungus, as white fungus target a number of organs like nails, private parts, kidneys, and intestines and not just lungs
Who are at risk:
1- People with low immunity
2- People on steroids
3-People with diabetes or other existing medical conditions.
