In order to help the patients pass their time productively in Group of Tuberculosis Hospitals in Sewri, the medical superintendent of the hospital is encouraging citizens to donate books. A Facebook page, 'Donate Books for TB patients' has been started by Dr Lalit Anande for the cause.

Dr Anande, medical superintendent of TB Hospital was inspired by his friend Dr Tushar Jagtap, who has built the habit of strategic isolation to read books.

Speaking about the initiative, Dr Anande, said, "TB patients stay in the hospital for several weeks and months, depending on the severity of their illness. They are usually kept isolated throughout the treatment. A conversation with Dr Tushar inspired me to start the book reading initiative for my patients in the hospital."

He added, "Rather than sitting on the bed and staring into nothing, I would like my patients to develop reading habit which will help them to develop positive thinking and boost their brain power."

While the initiative is in the planning stage, the hospital is getting help from various individuals who are donating books of different languages for patients of all ages.

Dr Tushar Jagtap, said, "If recuperating patient's are made to engage themselves in activities like reading, it would definitely cheer them up and give their confidence a boost. The ultimate aim of the hospital is not just treating the patients but also build confidence in them, and nothing can substitute knowledge. If fast recovery is promised, quest to become an enlightened citizen is on course."
