British actor Joe Alwyn has joined the cast of Joel Edgerton's gay conversion therapy movie Boy Erased.

For the follow-up to his directorial debut, The Gift, Edgerton is serving as writer and director on Boy Erased, a coming-of-age and coming-out drama based on Garrard Conley's Boy Erased: A Memoir of Identity, Faith, and Family reported Entertainment Weekly.

The film follows Jared, the son of a Baptist pastor, who, upon being outed to his parents at 19, must decide between entering a gay conversion therapy program and being shunned by his community.

Alwyn, who is currently dating pop star Taylor Swift, joins the cast that includes Lucas Hedges and Academy Award winners Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe.

Cherry Jones and Red Hot Chili Peppers' bassist Flea are also onboard.
