20th Century Fox has unveiled the synopsis of the Dark Phoenix movie ahead of the trailer launch of the X-Men film on Tuesday.
Starring Game of Thrones' Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Dark Phoenix was in production for a very long time, the significance of which changed after the bad reception of X-Men: Apocalypse.
James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Alexandra Shipp are returning to reprise their roles. McAvoy's co-star in It: Chapter 2, Jessica Chastain is the new addition to this mutant cast.
According to the synopsis, Jean Grey (Turner) will interact with an alien entity on a mission in space that will awaken the extraordinary mutant abilities in her which is familiar to comic book fans as Dark Phoenix.

In Dark Phoenix, the X-Men face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiralling out of control and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite - not only to save Jean's soul but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.'
Directed by Simon Kinberg, Dark Phoenix is set to arrive in theatres on February 14, 2019.
