Doing the press junkets for his upcoming superhero ensemble movie, Justice League, Jason Momoa spilt some spoiler-y beans about his role.
The Game of Thrones star plays Aquaman, the King of the underwater world of Atlantis in the DC Extended Universe movie. In an interview with SFX Magazine, Momoa revealed that watching Arthur Curry's (Aquaman's human name) character arc will be 'tough for the fans.'
"But you gotta wait until we get to the solo movie to really know. Because he’s not king yet. He doesn’t believe in himself, he doesn’t know what to do with the powers he has. He’s going through tons of loss. He hates Atlanteans. The fact that people are calling him ‘Aquaman’ right now — he couldn’t give two shits about anything Atlantean. So he’s really not quite there yet. That’s kind of tough to play. We gotta figure out the origin, where we’re going. Some people will be like, ‘This isn’t my Aquaman.’ But we’re not there yet," concluded Momoa.
This means the metahumans Batman (Ben Affleck) is bringing together to form Justice League will have Aquaman on training wheels just like The Flash (Ezra Miller) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher).
Apart from Justice League, Momoa is also shooting for stand-alone Aquaman movie which is being directed by James Wan of The Conjuring franchise.
Amber Heard, Dolph Lundgren, Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Willem Dafoe and Nicole Kidman have joined the cast and crew of the new movie set to release in December 2018.
