Actress Rose McGowan has chronicled in her new book, Brave, the sexual assault that she allegedly faced at the hands of Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. In the memoir, which was published yesterday worldwide, the Charmed star recalled seeing him for the first time during the 1997 Sundance Film Festival where her movie was being screened.
Once the screening ended, Weinstein, whom she has referred to as a ‘monster’ in the book, apparently summoned the then 23-year-old actress for a meeting at a restaurant, which was then shifted to his hotel suite. She alleged that after talking about her career, he held her down on the edge of a jacuzzi and sexually assaulted her.
The actress said that after the incident, she attended a photo opportunity for a film where she told a co-star about the incident. The co-star, who has previously been identified by McGowan as Ben Affleck, reportedly said, ‘Goddammit. I told him to stop doing that.’ Affleck has never responded to this allegation. Weinstein’s spokesperson, too, has refuted the allegation.
