BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is campaigning in Uttar Pradesh, today, and is also scheduled to address a rally in Amethi, the bastion of the Gandhis. The Gujarat chief minister will address a rally in Gauriganj in favour of BJP candidate Smriti Irani.

Amethi is among the 64 constituencies that will go to polls on May 7 in the eight phase of Lok Sabha polls 2014. Today is the last day of campaigning for the phase. Congress Vice President Rahul is seeking re-election for the third time from Amethi, where the party has won 10 out of 12 elections. He is campaigning hard across the constituency since May 3.

LIVE UPDATES

Bharat Vijay rally in Amethi

* After the rally Narendra Modi tweeted about it

They ask where will Modi go if he loses. I will go back and sell tea if need be.

Take this in writing— in 2019 I will again come to Amethi and present my account of work done.

In his 10 years in Parliament, Rahul Gandhi has said noting about Amethi

They are telling lies when they say that providing power and other development is unto the state government:

We will bring water for the farmers and seek help of Mulayam Singh and I am sure he will help. This is above political differences

Talking directly to Congress, Modi says, Your friendship with the state govt is such that they do not even put candidates against you.

It's EC's responsibility to ensure that elections are held free and fair in Amethi

Congress has looted the nation in the name of the poor. They never thought a son of a poor man will challenge them

We are poor, yes! We ask, but at least we do not loot

I have not come here to abuse anyone. They are free to abuse me from every dictionary they find.  I have come here to share your sadness and make your problems mine

We constructed over 76,000 toilets in schools for girl students. But in Amethi there are no toilets in schools.

The Congress goes all over the nation and abuse Gujarat model, but do they have the courage to tell what is happening in Amethi

BJP is forming the government but we have to make the nation and before that we have to develop Amethi. I will create such an Amethi that Universities of the world will come here for case studies

* I have not come here for politics of revenge. That is not my path. I am here for politics of change

When we announced Smriti's name people said she is a celebrity. But I will tell you why we sent Smriti to Amethi. We do not want to trouble Rahul Gandhi, who is already troubled. We gave her a district close to MP border and I have seen the great work she has done there. An so we  decided to send her to the least developed in UP—Amethi. We wanted to present an alternative model. We never had a district in mind. After research we found out that the district was Amethi.

Nothing can save the mother-son government," Modi says, referring to Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. "Those who have voted in previous phases have already rejected them," he claims.

Narendra Modi addresses the rally in key constituency of Amethi. He says, "You want to know the mood of the nation then please come here to this battleground in Amethi."

There is wave of change that is taking over the nation, and Amethi wants to be a part of that, she concludes.

Amethi is asking why is the MP who talks about women empowerment cannot give education to young girls here in Amethi, questions Irani.

* "The people of Amethi have called me. Those who are here are here to support Narendra Modi as prime minister," says Irani.

* "Covered the entire constituency in 25 days," she says "People mocked us when the campaign started. People said this is Gandhi family bastion," she adds.

* Smriti Irani addresses Narendra Modi's rally in Amethi. "The entire nation is looking at this rally. People of Amethi and India are waiting for what India's future prime minister will say here," she says.

"India needs the kind of politics that brings people together."

"I assure you that I will keep fighting corruption all my life."

At Ambedkar Nagar
Addressing to the crowd at Ambedkar Nagar, Narendra Modi evoked Sardar Patel. He said, "If Sardar Patel had become the prime minister of India, things would have been very different." Blaming the Gandhi family in their home turf, he added, "This family did not do justice with him.I have come from Patel's state."

"We have to clean the parliament of criminals, its a priority," he added.

"Sonia Gandhi never mentioned me before. But now, she has started naming me."

"It is not her fault. The entire country is chanting my name," he added.

Taking a jibe at the Congress, he said, "People are like God. If I don't go to the people, who will I go to? Citizens are my 'high command'."

"We ask, we don't loot," he added. "Delhi has a government by a mother and son, the state here is being run by a father and son."

On the subject of agricultural development, he added, "We will not allow our farmer to die. We are committed to the wellbeing of our farmers. Farmers will no longer be looted."
