Heavy rains continue to lash Mumbai, rail services hit

On Tuesday, Mumbai continued its battle with heavy rains, as people took to social media to highlight the flooding in their respective areas.
The Western Railway that connects Churchgate in the South of the city and Virar in the North, saw services terminating at Vasai Road, two stations before Virar. This was mainly due to heavy flooding on the tracks at Vasai Road station and further north at Nallasopara and Virar.
The Western Railway put out a series of tweets stating that services had been delayed due to the heavy rains.

The Western Railway also highlighted the delay of several express trains that go north of Virar into Gujarat. "Due to very heavy water level on fast lines at Nallasopara due to very heavy rains, UP trains 12928,12268, 22904,19708, 22946,19218,19022,22928,12904,12962,12902,19024,12956,12215,12972,22564,MEMU 69174 & 69164 hv been regulated at various stns at/beyond Virar," they tweeted.
Several BEST buses have also been rerouted due to the heavy showers, and subsequent closing of roads.
- Route 261 has taken a diversion at Gajanan Maharaj Marg due to the closing of Shrirang Sabde Marg in Goregaon West
- Routes 7 (Ltd), 25 (Ltd), 302 and 165 have been diverted to Sion Road No 3, and Rani Laxmibai chowk due to closing of Sion Road No 24 (towards Thane)
- Routes 4 (Ltd), 83, 84 (Ltd), 79, 225 have been diverted through Linking Road due to closing of SV Road near Bandra talkies.

In the past 24 hours till Tuesday 8.30am, Santacruz observatory recorded 184.3 mm of rains, which is not only the highest rainfall received in July this season so far but also the highest rains witnessed in July since 2015. Meanwhile, the Colaba observatory recorded 165.8 mm of rains.
Meanwhile, IMD officials said that city will continue to witness intermittent heavy rains on Tuesday and Wednesday as well. “We have placed heavy rainfall warning for the entire Konkan and Goa belt including Mumbai till July 14 as heavy to very heavy rain at a few places with extremely heavy falls at isolated places is very likely over Konkan and Goa,” said the IMD official.

Mumbai’s Dabbawalas, the tiffin careers of the city, have suspended their work for the day across the city due to heavy rains, Hindustan Times reported.
Meanwhile, AC local services have been suspended by Western Railways for the day
84 flights affected as departure at Mumbai airport was delays by 26 minutes.

Heavy traffic reported from Western Express Highway near Sahar and Santacruz airports. People have cautioned against taking this route and rerouting their vehicles to go via SV Road in the west.

Up to 7 am, Eastern suburbs recorded 112 mm of rainfall, western suburbs recorded 162 mm of rainfall.
