PM Modi launches Smart City project in Pune

Smart City is another dream project of the Modi govt.

Taking a step forward in the direction of integrated urban planning and development in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 'Smart City' project at Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi, in Pune on Saturday.

The Smart City project comes under an ambitious programme of the NDA government the 'Smart Cities Mission. The  total investment of the project is around Rs. 1,770 crore.

The 20 selected cities would be linked through videoconferencing.

    PM says, " This Smart city project in itself is a mass movement, and this experiment has been successful.People of India are very smart. Once their skills are harnessed then see wonders that will happen". 

    Elaborating on the concept of choosing Smart Cities, PM remarks, "There is a positive atmosphere,of competing on development works & that too in the spirit of Jan Bhagidari". 

    On rapid urbanisation and its associated pitfalls, PM says that, "There was a time when urbanisation was considered as a problem but I think urbanisation must be considered as an opportunity. Cities have the ability to digest/absorb poor people and that is why people from villages migrate to cities in large numbers".
