Prime Minister Narendra Modi will get a tour of a museum and dinner with President Xi Jinping on Friday, the first day of an ice-breaking visit to China in which the giant neighbours will seek to re-set a troubled relationship.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping today exchanged views on "solidifying" the India-China relationship as they began an unprecedented two-day informal summit here during which they will have a series of one-on-one conversations focussing on bilateral, global and regional issues.
Prime Minister Modi who arrived here in the central Chinese city early today for the informal summit began talks soon after President Xi hosted a grand welcoming ceremony for him. The summit in Wuhan - the favourite holiday spot of revolutionary Chinese leader Mao Zedong - is being seen as an effort by India and China to rebuild trust and improve ties that were hit by the 73-day-long Dokalam standoff last year.
"And the much awaited Informal Summit gets underway! PM @narendramodi warmly welcomed by Chinese President Xi on his arrival at Hubei Provincial Museum in Wuhan. The two leaders had a one-on-one meeting during which they exchanged views on solidifying our bilateral relationship," . Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the centuries old Sino-India ties, telling Chinese President Xi Jinping that the two countries have a "big opportunity" to work together for the benefit of their people and the world. During his delegation-level talks as part of an unprecedented informal summit with President Xi in the central Chinese city, Modi said such informal summits should become a tradition between the two countries. "I'll be happy, if in 2019, we can have such informal summit in India," Modi told Xi.
PM Modi is now making opening remarks during the delegation level talks. He emphasises on people to people contact between India and China. "The people of India feel really proud that I'm the first Prime Minister of India, for whom, you (Chinese President) have come out of the capital twice to receive me", says PM Modi.
PM Modi praises China's power projects are unique. PM says responsibility of world are on India and China, as 40% of the global population is in both the countries. PM says that there is different areas of convergence between India and China.
PM says both India and China are growing economy. "China talks about a new era and I am working for a new India. World peace is important and India-China have to work for the same and make all possible contributions", says PM Modi. The five positive elements of this relationship are thought, communication, support, commitment and shared vision. These can be the basis for world peace and stability, says PM Modi to Xi Jinping
