PM to review rise in COVID infections, vaccine roll-out with CMs

PM Narendra Modi is slated to review the coronavirus situation and discuss the roll-out of vaccine programmes with CMs of eight states, said sources.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to review the coronavirus situation as the cases continue to rise in a meeting with the chief ministers of various states, according to the sources.

The PM will hold meetings with the CMs of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chattisgarh, Kerala, and West Bengal.

He will also be discussing the roll-out of the vaccine programmes in the states to plan for the coronavirus vaccine when it is made available. Trials of various vaccine candidates are ongoing in India and all over the world.

The PM is also scheduled to discuss the vaccine delivery roll-out with all the states and union territories. As the coronavirus cases crossed the nine million mark in India, the government is preparing the vaccine delivery system on a war footing to be ready when the vaccine is available.

As per the data released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 44,000 new cases and 511 new deaths related to COVID-19 were recorded in the last 24 hours. 42,204 people were discharged in this time period as well.

It was the 16th straight day when India reported less than 50,000 cases in a day. The daily new cases crossed 50,000 last on November 7.

India's total tally of COVID-19 cases reached 91,39,866 on Monday and its number of deaths increased to 1,33,738. Whereas a total of 85,62,641 people have recovered from the virus and discharged from medical care, India's active cases stand at 4,43,486.

India's recovery and fatality rates are 93.86 per cent and 1.46 per cent respectively, says the Ministry data.

Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka have reported the maximum number of cases in the country. Maharashtra has been the worst hit with as many as 82,521 active cases and 46,623 deaths. The number of recoveries in Maharashtra stands at 16,51,064.

In addition, Delhi has been recording another surge in the coronavirus cases. On Sunday, it recorded 6,746 new cases and 121 deaths.
