Telangana Chief Minister KCR and his party Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) have been criticised by many for not providing enough jobs in the state.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao announced on December 13 that the notification to fill up the pending vacancies of teachers, police, and others in various government departments in the state will be issued soon.

The Telangana CM made this announcement in the backdrop of completing two years of his second term in office. He said that the notification to fill up the vacancies would be released after calculating the requirement in different departments. He directed Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar to collect the list of all these vacancies all over the state.

The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) quoted him as saying, "Primary information suggests that there are about 50,000 vacancies in the state in several departments. We have to fill them up. Teachers and police have to be recruited in thousands."

"Collect details about the vacant posts in teachers, police and other departments. Calculate how many employees are needed for which departments. After getting the number of vacant posts, notifications to fill up these vacancies should be released," he added.

The CM and his party, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), have seen criticism recently for not providing jobs in the state.

Bandi Sanjay Kumar, who is the state president of the rival Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) called the announcement a joke.

The CM's move was to attract the youth ahead of graduate constituency Member of Legislative Council (MLC) elections, said Kumar.

He added that KCR took six years since the formation of the state to remember the unemployed youth.

In a press statement, the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) stated that they had completed recruitment for about 35,724 posts in six years.

The youth organisations of Telangana earlier objected to the state government's move in 2019 to raise the retirement age of government employees from 58 to 60 years. They thought that this would decrease the employment opportunities for the unemployed youth in the state.
