Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hailed the passage of key bills pertaining to Jammu and Kashmir, and asserted that the move will bring a better tomorrow for people of the Valley, who, he said, will now be free from the shackles of 'vested interest groups'.

Reaching out to the nation through tweets in five languages, including English, Hindi, and Urdu, to name a few, the Prime Minister, after the passage of the resolution revoking Article 370 and the Jammu and Kashmir (Reorganisation) Bill 2019 in Lok Sabha said a "new dawn" awaits the people of the state.

"I salute my sisters and brothers of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh for their courage and resilience. For years, vested interest groups who believed in emotional blackmail never cared for people's empowerment. Jammu and Kashmir is now free from their shackles. A new dawn, better tomorrow awaits!" he tweeted.

Outlining the renewed unity of India after scrapping of Article 370, Modi wrote, "Together we are, together we shall rise and together we will fulfil the dreams of 130 crore Indians! A momentous occasion in our Parliamentary democracy, where landmark bills pertaining to Jammu and Kashmir have been passed with overwhelming support!".

He also stated that the Bills pertaining to Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh will ensure integration and empowerment.

"These steps will bring the youth into the mainstream and give them innumerable opportunities to showcase their skills and talents. Local infrastructure will significantly improve," the Prime Minister wrote.

The Parliament on Tuesday passed a bill to reorganize Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories and a resolution to repeal controversial Article 370 with Home Minister Amit Shah stating that the said Article had "throttled" democracy in Kashmir and its repealing will entail extension of 106 central laws to Jammu and Kashmir.

"Who stopped central Acts from being extended to Jammu and Kashmir. It was done to keep (the rule of) three families. Article 370 was used to throttle democracy," he said.
Shah said 41,500 persons have been killed in terror-related violence since 1989.

"The terrorism spread due to Article 370. Do we want to walk on the same path? We walked on the same path for 70 years, what was the result? Who is responsible?" he asked.

Referring to concerns of opposition members over the division of the state into two union territories, he said that there has been demand from Ladakh for UT status and the government was willing to again make Jammu and Kashmir a state once normalcy returns.

"We have no objection to make it state again after return of normalcy," he said.

Attacking the opposition parties, he said none of them could say what were the advantages of keeping Article 370.

"It is against democracy, increases poverty, discourages tourism, hampers education apart from being anti-women, anti-Dalit and a provision that nourishes terrorism," he said adding that its repeal will bring investment to the state, create education facilities, boost tourism, increase land prices and create employment.

Amit Shah tweeted, " I am proud that i am part of an organisation that had fought to keep Kashmir as an integral part of India."

" Shyama Prasad Mukherjee gave up his life for the struggle. This is a truthful way to pay homage to him", he said

He added, " I congratulate all the party workers who took part in this struggle"

Earlier during the discussions, Masoodi had alleged that as per Gopalaswami Ayyangar, a member of the Drafting Committee of the Constitution, Mukherjee had agreed to Article 370 and urged the BJP to look into the matter.

"Today you (BJP) say no, when did we say this..you say this was temporary..you go and read Gopalaswami Ayyangar's speech. 370 was made with Mukherjee's approval," Masoodi had said.
