Rameshwar Gurjar, the 19-year-old athlete from Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh whose video of running 100 metres in just 11 seconds went viral on social media, has now stopped short at an official speed test at the TT Stadium in Bhopal, where he clocked in 12.9 seconds for the distance of 100 meters.

Gurjar was called in for the test by Madhya Pradesh Sports Minister Jitu Patwari after he met the boy earlier on Saturday.

Rameshwar, though, was seen to have an indomitable spirit even after the speed test and has pledged to train harder to improve his speed. The teenager has accorded the longer timespan to him not being able to run barefoot during the speed test, to which he was accustomed. He is also said to be experiencing pain in his feet and back muscles.

Rameshwar has now been admitted to an athletic academy in Bhopal where he will train for a month, at the end of which another speed test will be conducted.

Meanwhile, the earlier video that showed Gurjar running barefoot for a distance of 100 meters in just 11 seconds has been doing its rounds on social media. This video has caught the attention of Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare Kiren Rijiju who earlier promised to secure the runner a place in the athletic academy.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan was found to be in praises of the sprinter. "India is blessed with talented individuals," he said in a tweet, "Provided with the right opportunity and right platform, they'll come out with flying colours to create history! Urge @IndiaSports Min. @KirenRijiju Ji to extend support to this aspiring athlete to advance his skills!"

Kiren Rijiju later tagged former Chauhan on Twitter and wrote, “ Shivraj ji, tell someone to bring the runner to me. I will make arrangements for him to secure a place in an athletic academy.”

Gurjar is a resident of Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh and he was praised for his commendable achievement as an athlete.

Gurjar has studied up to class 10 as he was forced to quit school due to his family’s financial condition. Gurjar said that given a chance, he will make India proud as he has been preparing for the past four to five years.

"Our teacher always supported us and motivated us to run. I wish to play for the country and bring a medal. If I get good support from the government, I can break the record of Usain Bolt," he added.

The boy earlier met the State Sports Minister Jitu Patwari on Saturday to seek support for pursuing athletics.

The minister said that the government will provide him with all the facilities to train further.

Around five days back, we came to know through the media that Rameshwar covered 100 meters in 11 seconds," he said.

"Rameshwar is from a poor family and he doesn't have adequate resources to pursue sports. When I informed the Chief Minister about him he said that he should be given support. We will support him and send him to the academy and get him trained," he added.

Usain Bolt set the current record in the 100 meters for Men (Athletics) in 2009 at an astounding 9.58 seconds, while the national record is held by Amia Malik, who ran 100 meters in 10.26 seconds in 2016.

With an indomitable spirit, Rameshwar now looks to train harder and run faster by the end of the month, in a bid to catch up to his dreams of being the fastest man alive.
