Kerala plane crash: Mortal remains of Akhilesh Kumar arrive in Delhi, AI Express employees pay tributes

Employees of Air India Express paid tributes to First Officer Akhilesh Kumar, the co-pilot who lost his life in the Kerala plane crash along with 17 others.

The mortal remains of the deceased were brought to Delhi in the early hours of Sunday from Kochi and it was received by his fellow officers of Air India.

Nearly 200 employees of various airlines, including pilots and ground staff, gathered at the airport to pay their respects to Akhilesh.

The body was then taken to Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, by the road where Akhilesh's family lives.

At least 18 people including two pilots have lost their lives in the incident. However, the four-cabin crew members are safe, said the Air India Express in a statement. The injured are admitted to hospitals in Malappuram and Kozhikode, according to Kerala government officials.

The flight was carrying 190 passengers including 10 infants when it skidded while landing at Karipur airport in Kozhikode on Friday evening.

Union Minister of Civil Aviation Hardeep Singh has reiterated that as in the case of Kozhikode accident, an inquiry has been ordered under the Aircraft Act, black boxes of flight IX-1344 have been recovered.

The findings of this investigation will be made public.

He encouraged all to exercise patience and refrain from making speculative observations. He further emphasized that all the issues were addressed and rectified.
