Mumbai observed the highest rainfall of the season on July 15-16. With incessant overnight rain followed by intermittent showers during the day, the city witnessed immense waterlogging and disruption of local trains and other transport services on Friday (July 16).

While certain areas saw floods, a wall collapsed on some shanties in Chembur's Bharat Nagar area in Mumbai due to a landslide. According to the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), 10 people were killed in the incident on Sunday morning (July 18). As per Mumbai's fire brigade team that also reached the incident site, 16 persons were rescued from the debris of the wall collapse in Chembur. Rescue operations for the people trapped are underway, said NDRF.

Nearly five houses have also been affected due to the incident, while eight others are still feared trapped under the debris of the collapsed structure. In a similar incident, three people were killed and two injured in Vikhroli where some hutments collapsed due to a landslide.

As many as 250 people were evacuated from the Kranti Nagar slum near the Mithi river after it crossed the danger mark.
