100 years of Sai Baba Samadhi: Shirdi becomes a fortress as lakhs of devotees throng temple town for Dusshera

Shirdi will witness a boost in security on occasion of the centenary year of Sai Baba’s Samadhi, which took place on Dusshera in 1918.

As part of the occasion, a Saira Darbar will be constructed between October 17 and October 19 in Shirdi. The darbar can accommodate over 10 lakh devotees, who are expected to be present.

Even before the ceremony, hotels have been overbooked in Shirdi. Over 750 hotels and 1,500 rooms are full. Adequate security arrangements have been made, with over 500 CCTV cameras, police personnel, bomb squads present in every corner of the temple town.

The trust was established in 1922 with a sum of Rs 3,200. Today, the annual income of the trust is Rs 371 crore.  

 On Tuesday, private airliner TruJet launched a Vijayawada-Shirdi, Visakhapatman-Shirdi, and Rajahmundry-Shirdi. The new services are expected to be launched from November 15.
