The state government on Saturday honoured 11 littérateurs with ‘Sahitya Gaurav Puraskar’. The state’s various literature academies felicitated writers, poets who made significant contribution to various languages.
State sports, culture and youth affairs minister, Fakirbhai Waghela, secretary of sports, culture and youth department Bhagyesh Jha and senior littérateur Bholabhai Patel honoured the achievers.
Speaking on the occasion Waghela said, “Littérateurs present their observations of society in a creative manner. They spread new messages and open a new way of thinking.”
In his welcome address, Bhagyesh Jha, secretary of the department said that littérateurs are ‘feeling-meters’ of the society who keep alive people’s consciousness. The Hindi Sahitya Academy felicitated veteran Gujarati writer Raghuveer Chaudhary who appreciated the various initiatives taken by the academies to encourage
littérateurs.
Gujarati Sahitya Academy honoured Amrutlal Vegad, Varsha Adalaja, Kumarpal Desai and Vinesh Antani for their contribution to Gujarati language. The State Sindhi Sahitya Academy felicitated Kishan Khubchandani, Lakhmi Khilani and Namdev Tarachandani.
The Urdu Sahitya Academy honoured scholar of Persian language Professor Zubair Qureshi, Abbas Danee and Urdu poet Harsh Brahmbhatt. The award constituted a plaque, shawl and cash prize of Rs1 lakh.
The state-run academies have felicitated 116 littérateurs till now since 1984.
