As many as 11 students of class IX have been booked here for allegedly extorting money from their classmate, who stole Rs4lakh from his parents over a period of 18 months to buy drugs from them.
On the complaint of the father of the victim, an FIR under section 406 and 385 for criminal breach and extortion was filed yesterday, police said.
According to the police, the victim's friends first persuaded him to take drugs saying that it would increase his learning power and when he became a habitual user, they provoked him to steal money for fulfilling his requirements.
The victim during the course of 18 months stole Rs four lakh from his father's ATM account and also from the house and gave it to his classmates, police said.
The entire story came to light after the parents caught the boy stealing money.
The father has alleged that though he informed the parents of the accused, they did not take any action forcing him to approach the police.
Police said that they were dealing cautiously in the case as the accused too were minors.
