13 dead, 112 new dengue cases in West Bengal

112 new cases of dengue were reported in the last 24 hours in various parts of West Bengal

Two more persons have died of dengue in West Bengal, taking the toll to 13 in the vector-borne disease since January, with 112 new cases reporting in the last 24 hours, officials said on Sunday.

A 10-year-old girl, who was infected with the virus and admitted to a hospital, died this morning, state Director of Health Services Biswaranjan Satpathy told PTI.

"The girl was a resident of the Salt Lake area and was suffering for the last one week. She was admitted to the BC Roy Hospital five days ago and died today morning," he said.

Doctors said that a 42-year-old woman from Mukundapur area had died of dengue yesterday.

"The patient who was admitted at the KPC Medical College and Hospital died yesterday. We were waiting for the report to get a confirmation whether it was Dengue case or not," he said.

Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, another 112 new cases of dengue were report from different parts of the state, mainly from Serampore in Hooghly district, taking the total number of people affected by the vector-borne disease to 1,495, Satpathy said.
