Her father's decision to shift to Naroda drove her to take this drastic step .

Unhappy over her father's decision to shift to Naroda, a 19-year-old girl tried to hang herself at her Vastrapur residence on Wednesday. She was rescued by her family in the nick of time and admitted to a hospital.

According to Vastrapur police, Surya Dashrathsinh Vaghela tried to commit suicide at her Payal Apartment residence at Mansi Circle by hanging herself from the ceiling fan.

Investigations revealed that she was upset with her father's decision to shift to Naroda. For the last few days she was at loggerheads with her family members about the relocation issue, as she didn't want to leave her current home.

After a heated argument on the matter on Wednesday, she went inside her room, placed a storage drum under the ceiling fan and looped a dupatta around it.

Luckily, the door to the room was open and family members and neighbours rushed inside and stopped her from committing suicide. She was rushed to Sola Civil Hospital and later transferred to SAL Hospital, where her condition was declared to be critical, until Thursday.

As Payal is a student of Class XII and appearing for her boards, exam pressure could be a reason for the extreme step taken by her, say Vastrapur police.

"We are not sure if she tried to hang herself due to exam pressure, but it can be one of the possibilities. The picture will be clear after she recovers and gives her statement," said BC Baraiya of Vastrapur police.
