Two youngsters and their families have been booked for rape, after they married two minors who ran away from home. Eleven months ago, the father of Rina Parmar (16) and Mina Parmar (12) had filed a missing person’s complaint with Vejalpur police after the girls went missing from their home. Crime branch officials traced the girls to Mumbai and brought them to the city two days ago.
An official said that the two girls had gone to Surat after leaving home. “There, in a train they met Bhogilal Dhamejiya and his wife Amrutben. The couple worked as vegetable vendors in Palghar in Mumbai,” said the official.
Officials said the couple tried to convince the two to return to their home but as the girls refused, they took them under their wing. The girls started living with the couple and were later married to their sons Sunil and Ravi.
A month ago Rina, who was pregnant, called her father and told him of her whereabouts. The father them informed the cops who went looking for the girls and found them in Mumbai. They were then brought to the city and later a complaint of rape was filed against the girls’ husbands and their family members. Further investigation in the case has been transferred to Surat railway police.
