Two men have been detained in connection with the murder of a 22-year-old man whose face was smashed with stones in north Delhi's Civil Lines.

Nikhil's body was found yesterday behind the office of the Directorate of Education (DoE) and his face was covered with a plastic bucket, they added.

The kind of injuries that were inflicted on his face and head indicate that he had been hit with stones, the police had said.

Nikhil used to live with his family in the slums behind the Civil Lines police station.

During investigation, it emerged that Nikhil was first thrashed, then hit with stones and was then suffocated by putting his head inside a bucket of water.

While the autopsy report is awaited, police suspect that he died due to asphyxiation.

His nose was broken and his face had injury marks. During their probe, police found that Nikhil was killed at some other place before his body was dumped.

The two men, who have been detained are being questioned about their involvement and the reason Nikhil was killed with such brutality and planning, said a senior police officer.
