The Punjab born 21-year-old Phutela was undergoing treatment at the Apollo Hospital in Bangalore for kidney problem and jaundice for three months and passed away on Monday night.

Young model-turned Tamil actress Shubha Phutela has died at a hospital in Bangalore after battling a prolonged kidney ailment.

The Punjab born 21-year-old Phutela was undergoing treatment at the Apollo Hospital in Bangalore for kidney problem and jaundice for three months and passed away on Monday night, hospital sources said.

The Miss South India 2010, who made her debut in Tamil film Maalai Pozhudhin Mayakathilaey this year, had shown signs of recovery recently, but suddenly went into coma last week, hospital sources said.

Earlier this year, she had signed for a Telugu film starring Ram but backed out citing health issues.

She was born in Ludhiana and had her schooling and college in Bangalore.

She was also the face of many popular brands, including jewellery line, textiles.

Phutela is survived by parents, an elder sister and a younger brother.
