At least 28 people have lost their lives and nearly four thousand villages affected in last month's hailstrom in Assam.
Stating this at a press conference here today, chief minister Tarun Gogoi said the state suffered extensive damage in the hailstorm that lashed most parts last month.
The maximum casualty of six persons each was reported from remote villages of Dhubri and Cachar districts while five died in Barpeta district, the chief minister said.
A total of 1.18 crore people were affected in the hail storm which hit 17 districts of the state, Gogoi said.
The chief minister also said that floods had also affected Lakhimpur, Sibsagar, Jorhat and Tinsukia districts this year.
The government has distributed essentials to the affected people while four relief camps have been opened, he said.
